SNAP Texas Payment: Who Gets Their September Payment This Week?

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), also known as food stamps, helps people with low incomes buy food in the United States, including Texas.

In Texas, the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) gives SNAP food benefits and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) cash payments through the Lone Star Card.

This card works like a debit card and can be used to pay for essential items.

Payment Schedule:

  • TANF benefits are paid during the first three days of each month, based on the last digit of the EDG (Eligibility Determination Group) number.
  • SNAP benefits are given out all month long, depending on the last two digits of the EDG number.

Sometimes, when people first apply, their SNAP benefits may be combined so that their pro-rated amount and their next monthly payment are given together as one deposit.

Important to Know:

  • SNAP benefits cannot be given out more than 40 days after the last time you received them.
  • If a household's application was approved over 40 days before their usual benefit date, there is an adjustment period to get the benefit schedule back in order.
  • Households approved before May 1, 2023, keep their current payment schedule, unless there is a break of more than six months in benefits, and then they reapply after that date.

Who Gets Paid This Week?

If your EDG number ends with the digits between 18 and 38, you will get your benefits this week.

Here is the exact schedule:

  • EDG Number 00 - 03: Day 1
  • EDG Number 04 - 06: Day 2
  • EDG Number 07 - 10: Day 3
  • EDG Number 11-13: Day 4
  • EDG Number 14 - 17: Day 5
  • EDG Number 18 - 20: Day 6
  • EDG Number 21 - 24: Day 7

What food can you buy with SNAP?

  • Fruits and vegetables.
  • Meat, poultry and fish.
  • Dairy products, such as milk and cheese.
  • Bread and cereals.
  • Other foods such as snacks and non-alcoholic beverages.
  • Seeds and plants.
