Combined Benefits: Key Dates for Social Security and SNAP Payments in December 2024

Many Americans rely on benefits like Social Security and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to help with their expenses.

Social Security is a program that gives money to older adults, individuals with disabilities, and others eligible each month. SNAP, on the other hand, helps families buy the food they need based on how much money they make and their needs.

People often wonder if they can receive both Social Security and SNAP benefits at the same time, especially in December 2024. The good news is, yes, it's possible! Both programs work separately, but they can be combined to help cover your costs.

When you apply for SNAP, the government will check how much money you have after paying for things like rent and medical bills. This is your net income. Your Social Security payments are included in this, but they don't automatically disqualify you from getting SNAP.

If you are still within the income limits after you add in your Social Security benefits, you can get help from both programs.

It's important to keep your information up to date with both Social Security and SNAP. Tell them if your income, family size, or address changes. Knowing when you'll get your benefits each month helps you plan out your finances better.

Social Security Payment Dates in December 2024

  • December 11: For people born from the 1st to the 10th of the month.
  • December 18: For those born from the 11th to the 20th of the month.
  • December 24: For those born from the 21st to the end of the month.

These dates apply if you started receiving Social Security after May 1997. If you began before that, your check would have come in November, and the next one will be in January 2025.
Remember that Social Security checks for retirees who started before May 1997 went out on December 3.
